Wow, I can’t believe the time has come to actually write this! I leave for Lesotho (a beautiful little country in Southern Africa) to join the Peace Corps as a Primary Education Teacher in just two months. In getting a head start on being prepared to pack up my life and move across the world for the next two years and three months, I’m starting this blog for myself to be able to look back on all my time in Lesotho as well as to keep family and friends updated on what I’m up too. It has been highly requested, I can assure you. Just kidding. Pretty sure my consistent readers will pretty much be Mom and Dad (yoo hoo family 🙂). Nonetheless, here we go…

Up to this point, I have completed the application process (starting around this time last year), rounds of interviews, medical clearance process (basically getting an insane number of shots and becoming immune to every disease ever), legal clearance process (proving I'm not a criminal), and am currently in the onboarding stage (paperwork and anxiety about packing). These next few weeks will be full of getting my life in order, moving out of my house in Boulder, working, being in the mountains, spending all my spare time with friends and family, and creating the best Spotify playlists ever since I have to download all of my music before I leave.

As many know, I graduated from CU Boulder this past May with a degree in Communication, Leadership Studies, and Sports Media. I decided to pursue the Peace Corps after school because a 9-5 office job scares the crap out of me and moving to Lesotho (which scares the crap out of my mom) sounded much more exciting. In all seriousness, I’m looking forward to getting to dive into a community and do something small that feels big. The idea of a completely new cultural and life experience is thrilling and something I have deeply desired for a long time. I love my people and life here in Boulder and to say I am sad to leave it is a gross understatement. That said, I can’t wait for this adventure and am eagerly awaiting all the incredibly wonderful and challenging things that await me in Lesotho.

Talk to ya soon!

Alexandra
